Regularity is the secret. I write five pages every morning and then go
down to the store. If I stick to that schedule I write quite easily and
I can get through the day without feeling guilty.

Know the story -- the whole story, if possible -- before you fall in
love with your first sentence, not to mention your first chapter. If
you don't know the story before you begin the story, what kind of a
storyteller are you? Just an ordinary kind, just a mediocre kind --
making it up as you go along, like a common liar.
--John Irving

just like a criminal goes back to the place of his crime.
--Isaac Bashevis Singer
