I hope someone here can help me - If a writers group cant then Ill be sure Im wrong that this word even exists - but I swear I remember a high school teacher speaking of this - way back when ...

Im looking for a word ... Ive googled, and wracked my brain, to no avail ..

it means the opening at the edge of a forest that looks out over a field, marsh, or other clearing

something like this -
can anyone help me think of this word?

thanks!

Glade?

I don't know - it sounds as if there should be a word for it though.

Maybe its somewhere in here?

thanks, Ill check out the site ...

yeah, I just came up with Glade a few hours ago - but the glade is the clearing itself, and not the opening from the woods ... Im sure this word was about the opening, like as a "doorway" that is constituted of the bush itself ..

"threshold" seems close but not close enough.

HA ha ... Im 'glade' I could provide some fun :D

thanks so much for these thoughts ...
Sylvan was another one that I had considered - but it seems that is not a noun except in some mythology, or D+D games and the like ... but a sylvania? ... I know thats not it ...

yeah, I damn meself now ...

Im pretty sure this is a "woodsy" word ... or something that has an earth science sense to it ...

Arbor?

Here, you deserve this. Q. How far can you walk into the woods? A. Only halfway - then you'll be walking out.

Oh dear, you're not going to like this. The actual word you are looking for seems to be "edge".

Here is the definition from "On edge, Managing Edge for Wildlife" :

The wildlife management term that best
describes this place is "edge." Very simply,
edge is the place where two different
habitats meet--such as a woodland and a
wetland, or a farm field and a woodlot.

I wish there was a more exciting word. Maybe it needs to be invented.

Great idea! We can start a discussion and all create neologisms! Now I'll be thinking about that! Any collaborators?

Tough one, Rumi. :p

I'll consult my English teacher base, but it also occurred to me that hunters might know this word. I'm not familiar with any hunting resources on the internet, though, so that's just a suggestion. :)
